Celebrating a perfectly horrible day... (Celebrations, October 24, 2014)

Another Friday is here and I am posting in VikLit's Celebrations hop.  We pause every Friday (as possible) and take some time to notice the small celebrations that we somehow overlook.  Friends, food, events in our lives - we all share.   If you want to join, the details are at the bottom of this page.

I am celebrating a perfectly horrible day (I am writing this Thursday).  It has been a bad day.  The workday was notable for being tiring.  I read ignorant comments on a blog post.   Other things happened that are serious and expensive.

And I just know that I will experience once more that truly wonderful moment that happens the morning after a bad day, when you first wake up, open your eyes, and for a breath of time it's as though nothing happened.  And then you remember.

I am so thrilled.

So, why am I celebrating?  Well, because as bad as the day has been, no one died, no one turned on me, I have my health, and I'm not out on the street.  There are others who would not mind having my terrible day just as long as their situation was similar to mine: my health, a job that pays me, my freedom and my friends.

That is what I am celebrating.  The fact that my bad day, which is, to me, certainly bad enough, is nothing compared to what others have had to put up with every day.

I think perhaps I am blessed.

What are you celebrating?  Why not join us?

    1. What's the old saying? 'I wept because I had no shoes... Until I met a man who had no feet.' You can always find a reason to smile.

  2. Good to put things in perspective as you've done here. Thanks for the reminder!

  3. With "Nuisance, the Pirate" swashbuckling for your safety, things have to look up. Glad you know they will; and your other friends (sans eye-patch) are rooting for you as well.

    1. Hi, Inge - If the bad guys don't watch out, Orlando (the pirate) may well go and buckle their swashes for them!

    1. Hi, Dixie - closing a house deal is a *Major* smile-maker. (And I survived the moment of waking up and then remembering.) :)

Orlando the Pirate sends his regards and says he'll be back from the vet soon. (And buckling swashes!)

  6. Hi Diana! Every day I celebrate what a gift it is to be alive! There is a wonderful children's book by Byrd Baylor ~ I'm in Charge of Celebrations ~ that I read to my third graders almost every year. When I'm down, I'll ask myself, "What can I celebrate today?" That usually works. Happy Friday!

  7. Awesome. You always have to look at the bright side, eh? I'm celebrating my oldest's birthday today, and as part of that, we're headed in for an ultrasound to find out the youngest's gender. Very exciting day for us.

    1. I stuck my head in to your blog and backed right out, squeaking with fright at The Evil Cucumber. I don't know what other nefarious things he does, but he gave me the giggles! Alas! (What a wonderful celebration you mention, going with Eldest for Ultrasound. Do take photos of Eldest's face!) I'll visit the rafflecopter when I get home.

    1. Thank you, Julia! And having visited your blog, I think I may just go and sort my bookcases. That will brighten up any day.

  9. It's always a good week when no one you know dies, no one came after you with intent to do harm and you feel good. Yay! I want that cat. May I have him? He'll fit right in with my cat themed house.

    1. Orlando is yours: but you have to give him back eventually. Be warned: he snuggles under the blankets on winter nights. (Another reason to celebrate: no one tried to foist meat loaf on me!)

  12. I think that's the best way to handle a bad day - to look at what you can appreciate, regardless - so well done. For instance, this week, one morning the pavement came rushing up to meet my face - yes, I got scraped up and banged up - but the way I looked at it, nothing was broken so all was well!
